Don’t Eat Pete is a very simple game that children adore. It’s a little silly, a lot loud and totally edge-of-your-seat kind of game. This is the perfect game for a birthday party or a holiday or a rainy day or any day really.
What you Need
First, you need a grid sheet with some characters on it. You can get holiday themed game board in our Fun Library as well as Farm and Corgi ones.
Next, you need some small candies such as M&Ms or jelly beans. You can shop here for a great selection.

How To Play Don’t Eat Pete
First, set the game board on the table with a pile of candy beside it. Next, place one candy on each character space.
The next thing to do is to have one player step outside of the room, out of earshot. The other players then agree on a character who is now Pete.
After they have decided, the player is called back into the room. Next, he will choose a candy to eat.
If the character is not Pete, he eats the candy and nothing else happens. He then chooses another candy. If this time he chose Pete, all the players call out “Don’t Eat Pete!”
When all the squeals of laughter have ended, the next player gets a turn. Again, that player is sent out of the room. New candies are placed on the squares that were ate and a new Pete is picked.
The player comes back into the room and tires to eat as much candy as they can until the others call out “Don’t Eat Pete!”
The game is over when all the kids have had a turn to play, or until the group tires of the game.
Winning Don’t Eat Pete
Really, the winner of the game is everyone as everyone will have a turn to eat candy and see the surprised look on the players face when Pete is found.
