Garbage you say? We have a card game called Garbage that is a ton of fun, don’t don’t confuse it with this dice game as they are nothing a like. This game is a fast moving game of luck similar to Come on Six, Tug of War and Roller Coaster.

The Garbage dice game is for two people of any age. Let’s get into the Garbage rules, how to play and see where you can get the free mat. We will also tell you how to play the Dumpster Dice version for four people.

What You Need

You can get a commercial copy of Trash Dice here; Canadians here. The game is super cute and is a great place to store dice. Here at FGS, we have LOTS of dice so we found a way to play without the commercial game. In this post we’ll tell you how to play our way.

First, you need 40 dice. That is a lot of dice and a great reason to get the Trash Dice game if you need some more dice. Next, you will need either our free play mat that you can get in our Fun Library (see the black box below to sign up to get your password) or a cup of some kind.

How to Play Garbage Dice

First, roll one dice each to decide who will go first. The first player will then roll one dice. This dice will be set in the line in its right pot. The goal of this is to make a straight from 1 to 6.

Next, the second player rolls one dice. If it matches the first dice that is already in the line, it is Garbage and is put in the trash can. On the other hand, if it’s a different number, then it’s placed in its correct spot in the line and play moves on.

The blue player rolled a four and will put it on the mat in the four space.

Now it’s the first players turn again. She will roll one dice and see if it fits in any open spot in the line. If it doesn’t, it’s garbage and set in the trash can.

The white player rolled a number that is already on the board and the dice goes to the garbage.

Play continues in this manner until one player places the last number in the line. When the line is complete, the player who put the last dice in, wins the dice in the line. Now the other player gets re-roll one dice and add it to the line.

Winning Garbage Dice Game

The winner of the game is the player who manages to have dice when the other player has used all of his dice.

Garbage Dice Variation

As this is a relatively new dice game, I could only find one rule variation. That is that the last player with dice must complete the line to win. I’m not sure what happens if that player is unable to finish the line. Maybe the dice in the line are split between the two players and the last one with dice wins? Or maybe the other player wins by default? I prefer the original way to win.

Dumpster Dice

This variation is for four players. The play is the same, except you will need 80 dice so each player will have 20 dice. When you don’t roll a useful roll, your dice gets thrown in the dumpster. When a player is out of dice, they are out of the game. The last player with dice is the winner.
