How to Play the Double Cameroon Dice Game

We think dice games are great. We love the shake of them in your hands, the weight of them, the clatter as they roll across the table. And today we have a new dice game to share with you: Double Cameroon.

This game is similar to Yahtzee with a twist that makes it more engaging.  If you pair it with the dice game Macao and Nix the Six you’d have a great game night.

In this post we’ll cover how to play, the rules, how to win and game variations for Double Cameroon. Let’s get into it.

What You Need for Double Cameroon

You will need 10 dice and a score sheet. We love playing where everyone has their own dice in their favorite colour. You can shop dice here; Canadians here. You could also get a Tenzi game since each player in that game gets 10 dice. To get your own copy of Tenzi shop here; Canadians here.

Of course we have a Double Cameroon score sheet for you in our free Fun Library. You can get your password in the black box below.

The Double Cameroon Score Sheet

Before we get to how to play, we need to go over the score sheet. The first six spaces are for the numbers 1 to 6. To score these, you add together the amount of dice rolled with that number. For example if you roll three 6s then you would score 18 for the 6 spot. If you rolled four 4s then you would score 16 points in the 4s spot.

The next one is for a full house. A full house is a pair and three of another number. To score, you add up all the dice together. So if you had three 5s and two 2s then your score would be 19 points.

The next spot is for a little Cameroon. This is a straight with the numbers 1 to 5. A little Cameroon will score you 21 points.

The next spot is for a big Cameroon. This is a straight with the numbers 2 to 6. This will score 30 points.

The last spot is for five of a kind. Five of a kind will gain you 50 points.

Playing Double Cameroon

First, decide who will play first. We like to use a high dice roll.

The first player will roll all 10 dice. Now he can decide what dice to set aside and which ones he wants to reroll. He has up to three rolls per turn. The twist is that he must score for two categories. Dice can only be used once so you must use five dice for one category and the other five for a different category.

This player has decided to score 20 for the four 5s and 20 for her full house

Once he has scored, it is the next player’s turn. She will roll all ten dice and decide what ones she wishes to keep and which ones to reroll. As before, she has up to three rolls for her turn. She must score in two categories.

This player has a big Cameroon and 4 ones

If you are unable to complete a roll, say a Big Cameroon, then you would score 0 for that category. This might happen closer to the end of the game when spots for scoring are limited.

This player tried to get a little Cameroon but was unable to get a two. He will score 24 for the sixes and have to take a 0 for the little Cameroon as the other spots for his roll are full

The game is over after everyone has a completed score card.

Winning

After everyone has scored, the player with the highest overall total is the winner.

Double Cameroon Variations

The only game variation I was able to find is for the full house. In the above game a full house score the sum of the dice. In this variation, a full house will score 28 points.

Double the Fun

Double Cameroon is a fun twist on a classic game where having to score in two categories for each round makes you stop ad think about the odds of rolls and strategize what would make the best total.
