Playing Beat That Dice Game
First, decide who will go first. Then that player rolls all three dice and adds the roll together. He then announces the score and adds “beat that.”
Next, the second player rolls her three dice and adds them together. If she has a higher score than the first player, then she wins. On the other hand, if her score is less then the first player wins.
The player with the highest score earns a point and gets to go first in the second round.

The white player beats that with 11.
Winning Beat That
The player who is the first to get 10 points is the winner.
Variations for Beat That Dice Game
More or Less Dice
To make the game easier for kids who are just starting to add you can play with just two dice. Or if they are working on number recognition, then one dice can work.
If you wanted to make it harder, you could add more dice.
20 Sides
To make it more interesting, and more addition practice, you could play with a 20 sided dice. If you don’t have more than one 20 sided, keep track of rolls on a paper.
More Math
To mix things up you could multiply the numbers together.
Or you could do a mix of operations. First, add two of the dice together then subtract the last dice from the sum. Or add two dice and then multiply the sum with the third dice.
Place Value
For this variation of Beat That, you will need a paper and pencil. First, make three squares side by side on the paper–one for the hundreds, one for tens and ones. Next, the first player rolls one dice. He then has to decide in which square to place the first roll. Next, he rolls the second dice. Again, he has to decide where to place it in the remaining two squares. The third roll goes in the empty box. The player then announces the number and says “Beat That.”
Now, it is the second player’s turn to do the same and see if she can get a higher number.

Don’t Beat That
This fun variation plays the same way with a twist. The second player is trying not to beat the score, therefore rolling a lesser umber. it works with all the other variations too.
Beat That if you Can
Beat That is a very versatile game. We like the Place Value variation the best as it has an element of risk to it. There is no better game for early math practice that is fun too. And what kid doesn’t love to challenge with the words “Beat That”–especially when they stand a good chance of winning the challenge? Math practice and family bonding, you can’t Beat That, now can you?
