How to Play Beggar My Neighbor

First, you start playing Beggar My Neighbor by dealing all of the cards out, one at a time to all the players. The cards stay in a facedown pile in front of the players. It is okay if there are players with more cards than others.

Next, the first player turns over her top card and places it in the middle. If it is a card from 2 to 10 then nothing happens and play moves to the next player.

On the other hand, if it is an ace or face card then the other players must pay out.

When the card turned over is a jack, all other players must pay one card into the middle. For a queen, players pay two cards. When it is a king, players pay three cards. And when the card is an ace, players need to pay four cards.

If all of the cards were flipped over are non-paying cards, then the player who played the card wins all of the cards in the middle and gets to tuck them into her pile.

But when a different player flips over a pay card when paying, then that card cancels out the first card. Now, all the players need to pay that player the correct amount of cards.
