It’s that time of year again. The time where we share what our favorite, most played games of the year are. 2022 had our family returning to more activities, a summer job that was very demanding and seeing our girls both teenagers, both in high school and one looking forward to university. But through it all we still had fun playing and connecting as a family while playing games.
Now on to the list of Our Top Games of 2022.
Number 10: Five Crowns
We like the changing complexity of this card game. Each round is different from the last. We also learned how to play a similar game with regular playing cards called 3 to 13. We prefer the commercial version. You can see the full Five Crowns post here. We also have a great score card in our Fun Library that makes it easy to score.
This was also the year that I played a perfect game! This might be why this game made the list 🙂 Seriously, it would have made the list if I hadn’t but getting to say that you played a perfect score never hurts.
Number 9: Monkey Dice
What’s more fun than monkeys? Monkey Dice of course. This is a fun and easy dice game that we played over and over, and just because it’s a Fame Game Shelf original game. You can learn how to play here.

Number 8: Linger Longer
This card game is perfect for when you have a small time window. It’s also great for three players. We played this one a lot while waiting for rides or friends to show up. It’s easy to play and only takes a few minutes to play a round, although it’s like chips, impossible to play just one hand. Check out Linger Longer here.

Number 7: Rack-O
This is certainly not a new game but it was once a favorite then sat on the shelf…waiting. Then this year we pulled it back out and we played it quite a few times. It’s an easy game to play when you need a little down time. If you haven’t heard of Rack-O you can see the full post here. And if you’re like us and your game has seen better days, you can get a new copy here. Canadians can shop Rack-O here.
Number 6: Ohio
Ah this dice game has been on our favorite list since we learned how to play. It is the most requested dice game on Friday nights—our pizza and game night. Simple and yet so frustrating at times. I for one seem to always get stuck on 7. Seven! It has the most probability to being rolled and yet there I sit on 6 waiting to roll a sum of seven. If you haven’t check out Ohio then you should it really is a fun game. Get the rules here.

Number 5: Codenames
Codenames has been on the list in other years. We like it because it has a short play time and it’s all about using your brain to figure out the best clues to give and what our partner means by red for two. I think part of the reason this one came off the shelf more this year is in part due to our Seasonal Cards that are an add on to the original game. If you haven’t played Codenames before be sure to check out the post here. And if you already love Codenames, check out our seasonal cards here, they really do add a special something to the game.
Number 4: Jok-R-Ummy
This is our favorite specialty card game. We have played it at least a thousand times and it doesn’t get old. It does need a little more time to play so it becomes the full game night as apposed to a filler games. Check out Jok-R-Ummy here.

Number 3: Garbage
This is a super simple card game that has caught our attention this year. Maybe that’s because it is just so easy to play. And it’s anyone’s game right up to the end. And, if we’re being honest, we love saying “I don’t want your garbage” when a player gives us a card that we can’t use. Check out the Garbage post here.

Number 2: Whacky Putt
Now we might be a little biased with this one as we came up this game, however, Whacky Putt really is a fun game. The cards are so cute and the actions are so much fun. The Christmas cards have also been very popular with you, my readers. And the Halloween ones too! Dice, a favorite season and all the fun of mini golf: what’s not to love. If you’ve missed any of the Whacky Putts you can read all about the original, Halloween and Christmas. Plus, keep your eyes open for other seasonal cards coming soon.

Our Number 1 Game of 2022: Splendor
Our most favorite game of the year for the second year in a row is Splendor. There’s just something about this light strategy game that has us hooked. It plays great as a two, three and a four player game. There are not a lot of games that can claim that. Getting to cash in ships for cards and snagging that win by one point…perfectly good fun. You can read the review of Splendor here.

What can we say? It’s a favorite.

As a Marvel fan, he likes the Super Hero add on cards the best.

Number 4: Scattergories and Categories
I love a good word game where you can be creative. You can see all Scattergories lists we have in our Fun Library and you can see all the Categories Seasonal games we have in our Shop here.
Number 3: Spot It
I still love this game, even though no one will play against me anymore. What can I say, I’m just good at the speed and observation games like Spot It and Blink.
Number 2: Jok-R-Ummy
I do like a good card game. And everyone will play this one with me!
Number 1: Whacky Putt
I have to say this really is my most favorite game of the year, not only is it fun to play but I’ve had the best time thinking up the goals and actions.
Julia’s List
Number 5: Blind Poker
She taught her friends to play at her birthday this year and they laughed and laughed as they played for candy. It’s a cray, simple game that is sure to have everyone engaged in the fun in no time. Learn how to play Blind Poker here.

Number 4: Whacky Putt
Maybe it’s because she spent so much time with young kids this year, but she loves the silly fun of the mini putt game.
Number 3: Mastermind
When it’s just her and I, she always asks to play this strategy game. And why would I ever say no? You can read the full Mastermind post here.
Number 2: Love Letter
This simple card game is deceptive. It’s part luck and part skill and usually full of easy decisions as you only have one card in your hand at a time. Read the full Love Letter post for more details on this great game.
Number 1: Ohio
By far she is the person who requests that we play Ohio. In fact, she always choses it for Friday night dinner game.
Carrie-Anne’s List
Number 5: Cheat
The card game Cheat is one that she loves to play, maybe because she gets to be devious. Learn how to play this easy and often hilarious game here.

Number 4: Monkey Dice
Monkey was one of her nick names when she was a little girl so maybe this is why is likes this one so much.
Number 3: Splendor
Somehow she always seems to beat me at this game, EVERY SINGLE TIME. I don’t know how she does it.
Number 2: Jok-R-Ummy
I think she is the one who likes this game the best out of all of us.
Number 1: Anything Harry Potter
Yep, we have a huge Potter Head in our house. When she’s on the fence between hanging in her room and playing a game with us, we can always get her with a Harry game: Pictopia, Mystery at Hogwarts, and even the Harry Potter Pictionary game.

All Wrapped Up
Now that 2022 is done, we’re looking forward to all the new games that will come with 2023, and the old ones we will rediscover. We hope that we’ve given you some new (or old) ideas to play on your next family game night.
