How to Play the Big Scoops Dice Game

Summer’s in full swing here and today we have a new, original game that is prefect for summer or any time of the year. The Big Scoops dice game is a race to see who can scoop the most ice cream!

Big Scoops joins our list of summer original games like Shark Bite, Lazy Dice, STAIRS, and of course our mini golf dice game Whacky Putt and all of its fun varieties. Ah, summer the prefect time to slow down and play games with your family and friends!

What You Need for Big Scoops

You will need 6 dice and a score sheet. We love to play where everyone has their own dice in their favorite color. You can shop dice here; Canadians here.

Playing Big Scoops

First, decide who will play first. We love to use a dice roll. Next, the object of the game is to score the most points inside your ice cream cone. You will have up to three rolls per turn. First, you will need to roll a 6 for a cone. If you don’t roll a 6, you will need to reroll all the dice. On the other hand, if you did roll a 6 then you can set it aside with any other dice you wish.

You must finish off your ice cream cone with a 1 for the cherry on top. You can’t set aside a 1 to be the cherry in earlier rolls. That is you need to roll your cherry in your last roll.

The dice in between the cone and the cherry count as your scoop score.

If you don’t roll a cone or a cherry at the end of three rolls, then your score for the round is zero and the game moves to the next player.

Sample Game

Player one rolls a 6, 6, 5, 4, 3, 4. She has a cone and sets it aside. Now she can choose to set aside any of the remaining dice that she wishes too. She decides to keep the 6 and 5 and reroll the rest. On her second roll she get a 6, 4, and 2. She keeps the 6 and rerolls hoping to get a cherry. She rolls two 4s and has no cherry so does not score for this round.

Player two rolls a 5, 5, 4, 2, 1, 1. There is no cone so he must reroll all the dice. He can’t set aside the 1s as a cherry. On his second roll, he gets a 6, 6, 5, 4, 4, 2. He keeps the 6, 6, 5 and rerolls. Next, he gets a 6, 5, 1. He has completed his ice cream with a cherry and can now score with a score of 22 scoop points.

Player one now rolls all the dice and gets 6, 6, 3, 2, 1, 1. She keeps the 6s and rerolls and gets 5, 5, 3, 1. She has a cherry and decides to take the score of 19 scoop points.

Player two now rolls and gets 6, 5, 3, 3, 3, 2. He keeps the 6 and 5 and rerolls. On the next roll he gets 6, 5, 3, 3. He keeps the 5 and 6 and rerolls. On his last roll he gets a 2 and 1. He scores 18 points for the round and adds it to the 22 he already had for a total of 40 scoop points.

Winning Big Scoops

The first player to get to 100 points put the game into sudden melt. All reaming players get one more turn to get a better scoop score. The player with the most scoops wins the game.
