I would love to say that I came up with Burger Dice on my own, but I can’t claim this on. I found it on The Game Crafter by game designer Matthew Gravelyn. There’s lots of luck and some press your luck involved and it makes quite a yummy dice game. This game goes nicely with our Big Scoops dice game and our Ants dice game if you want to go with a picnic theme.
Let’s get to what you need, how to play and how to win.

What You Need for Burger Dice
The original game has custom dice that has images of burger ingredients on them. The rules include a variation of the game to play with standard dice which is what I will cover in this post.
You will need 15 dice and a score sheet to play. If you need some more dice you can shop dice here; Canadians here. You can never go wrong with more dice!
The Burger Dice Story
The story of this game is quite cute. You are a chef in an under-funded kitchen and you’re trying to get as many burgers out as you can—with whatever ingredients as you can! This makes some interesting burgers. A ketchup burger anyone?
How to Play Burger Dice
The rules state that the last person who ate a burger gets to go first, a cute touch I thought.
The dice are the following ingredients:
1 is a bun. 2 is the burger. 3 is ketchup. 4 is a pickle. 5 is cheese. And 6 is a bun.
On your turn, you roll 3 of the dice. If on your first time you don’t roll a bun, you roll those 3 dice again and again until you have at least one bun. On the other hand, if you do roll a bun you set it aside to start your burger.

A burger is complete when it has one or more ingredient and a top bun and a bottom bun. A burger may not have duplicate ingredients. You can make as many burgers in a turn as you have dice for.
When you can’t use a dice, it goes into the waste pile.

After rolling and placing the first three dice, you take 3 more dice and roll them. Again, you can add them to any burger you have on the go, create new burgers, or place them in the waste. You must finish a burger before starting a new one.
You may choose to stop and take any points that you have scored at any point. On the other hand, if you end up with four or more dice in the waste, your turn is over and you score zero for the round.

If you run out of dice before you want to stop, take note of the score and reuse the dice that are in your burgers to add to your turn.
Scoring
When you choose to stop, you will score one point for each dice in a completed burger. Unused dice, dice in the waste pile or dice in a burger with no top bun do not score.

Winning Burger Dice
When a player reaches 50 points, she starts the final round of play. Now each player gets one more turn to make as many burgers as they can. The player with the most points after the finial player is the winner. If there is a tie, then those players each get another turn.
Example Burger Dice Game
Player One roll one: 2, 3, 4. She did not roll a bun and rerolls those dice again. On her second roll she rolls a 6, 2, 6 and makes a plain burger. Roll three is 1, 3, 5. She starts a new burger with a bun, some ketchup and some cheese and rolls three new dice. Her fourth roll is a 4, 5, 6. She adds the pickle (4) to the burger that is already on the go. She already has cheese on that burger and must put the dice in the waste. As the last move for this roll, she finishes off the burger with the 6 or bun.
Her next roll is a 6, 3, 5 which she starts as a new burger. On her next roll she gets a 1, 3, 5. She uses the one as the top bun of the burger on the go. She can’t use the 3 and 5 and puts them in the waste. As she has three dice in the waste, she decides to stop and take a score of 12 points.
Player Two: The first roll he gets a 6, 4, 5 and starts a burger. In the second roll he gets a 1, 2, 5. He adds the 2 and 1 to the burger and puts the 5 in the waste. His next rolls is a 1, 3, 3. He starts a new burger with the 1 and 3 and puts the other 3 in the waste. This roll he gets a 2, 4, 2. He puts the 2 and 4 on the burger and puts the 2 into the waste. Then he decides to stop. He only has only completed burger that has 5 dice in it and scores 5 points for the round.
Round Two
Player One: On her first roll she gets 1, 6, 6. She places the 1 as a bottom bun but has to place both 6s into the waste as there is no ingredient to make a burger. Her second rolls gets her a 3, 4, 1. She places them on the burger and rolls again. Her third rolls is a 2, 3, 5. As there is no bun to start a new burger she must place them into the waste. Her waste pile now has more than 4 dice and she score 0 for the round.
Full of Fun
Burger Dice is a game full of press your luck, good dice rolls and some unpredictable outcomes. It’s prefect for playing on the deck in the warm sunshine or in the winter when you want to warm things up.
