The luck of the Irish will have to be on your side to win these 7 lucky Dice games on St Patrick’s Day. With the day full of all things green, leprechauns and shamrocks we’ve put together a list of 7 dice games that are all based on luck. The games are all family friendly, great for all ages and perfect for St Patrick’s Day fun. Let the shenanigans begin!

Lucky Dice Game: Pass the Shamrock

For this game, you will need three dice and three shamrocks per player. You can use shamrock coins or bingo chips or even some St Patrick’s Day candy in place of the shamrocks.

To play, roll all three dice. Any 1, 2, 3s are safe. For each 4 that shows, place a shamrock in the middle. When a dice shows 5, pass a shamrock to the left. And when any dice shows a 6 you pass a shamrock to the right. A player could give all three of his shamrocks away on the first play. When a player loses all of his shamrocks, he is still in the game but doesn’t roll the dice until someone passes him a shamrock.

Play moves around clock wise. When only one player is left with shamrocks, she must roll a 1, 2, or 3 to win the game and all of the shamrocks!

St Patrick’s Day Dice Game: Stuck in the Clover

This game is a fun spin on the classic dice game Stuck in the Mud. Being stuck in the Clover is more festive for St Patrick’s Day.

You will need 5 dice for this game and a score sheet.

On a players turn, she will roll all five dice. When there are any 2s or 5s, they are Stuck in the Clover and are set aside. She will then reroll the remaining dice. Again, any 2s or 5s are Stuck in the Clover and are set aside. On the other hand, when a roll has no 2s or 5s then all the dice get added together and then added to the rounds score. The dice are then rerolled repeating the same. If there are 2s or 5s they are set aside and there is no score for the roll; if there are no 2s or 5s then the dice are added to the rounds score. A player keeps going until all of her dice are Stuck in the Clover.

The player who reaches a score of 100 is the winner.

Lucky Dice Game: Greedy Leprechaun

In this game, the sneaky Leprechaun loves the number 7. It’s his favorite number and the number that has him stealing all of your points. Work together to get more points than he does.

This is a variation of the dice game Knock Out.

For Greedy Leprechaun you will need two dice and a score sheet. Make a column for each player and an extra one for the Leprechaun.

On your turn, roll both dice. If the sum of the dice is anything but 7 then write that down as your score. Play moves to the next player. On the other hand, when the sum adds up to 7 the Leprechaun steels all of your points and you score 0.

For example on your first turn you score 8, round two you rolled 2 and that is added to the 8 for 10 points. But on round three you rolled 7. The Leprechaun crosses off your score of 10 and they get written in his column. Your score is now 0.

When another player rolls 7, their score is added to the Leprechaun’s score as well, the same way when it was your turn.

Play continues for ten rounds. At the end, tally each player’s score and then add them together. Next, add up the Leprechaun’s score. Whoever has the highest score—the players or the Leprechaun is the winner.

Variation: Each player can try to beat her own Leprechaun instead of playing as a team. For this, each player gets two scoring columns—one for their score and one for their Leprechaun. Play is the same. Each player either loses to their Leprechaun or wins.

St Patrick’s Day Dice Game:  Lucky Charms Dice Game

In this St Patrick’s Day dice game players are trying to win the pot of gold, but they have to watch out for the Leprechaun as well as the other players. Each player chooses a lucky number and when they roll that number they get to either flip over a coin or move one into the pot of gold. The Leprechaun has a lucky number too: 7. When a roll adds up to 7, he moves closer to the pot. If he gets to the pot before any player wins it, he gets it all. But watch our Mr. Leprechaun, players can move you back if they roll the right thing.

St Patrick’s Dice Game: Run From the Leprechaun

We have put a spin on the dice game Run For It, you can read how to play here.

For Run From the Leprechaun, you will need six dice and a score sheet.

On your turn, roll all the dice. Next, look to see how many runs that you can make. Each run needs to start with a one followed by a two and three and so on. A roll can make more than one run. You could a have a roll with three 1s for the start of three runs. For each dice in a run, you get 5 points.

For example if you roll 1, 2, 3, 1, 3, 6 the 123 is a run and so is the second 1. The 3 and 6 don’t count. So the score for that roll is 20 points.

When a roll is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 you have a lucky run and get an extra 5 points for a score of 30 points for the round.

The points let you run from the Leprechaun. The first player to reach 100 points successfully escapes from the Leprechaun and wins the game.

The scoring for Fifty is this:

Double 1s – 5 points
Double 2s – 5 points
Double 3s – wipes out your score and you start over at 0
Double 4s – 5 points
Double 5s – 5 pints
Double 6s – 25 points

The first player to score 100 points is the winner.

St Patrick’s Dice Game: Climb the Rainbow

This St Patrick’s Day dice game is based on the game Ohio. You can get the full tutorial for Ohio here.

For this game you will need three dice, Bingo chips, a paper and markers in the rainbow colours.

On the paper, write the numbers 1 to 12 in rainbow order, starting with 1 as red, 2 as orange and so on. Make sure to leave space between the numbers for the Bingo Chips. (Rainbow order for those who don’t have kids who were IN LOVE with rainbow is Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple.) You can draw lines in between the numbers to define the spaces.

Playing

On a player’s turn, she will roll three dice. To advance, she needs to roll either the number or a sum of the number for the next number on the rainbow. On her first turn, she needs to roll a 1. To move to the 2 spot, she needs to either roll a 2 or two 1s. All three dice may be use to make the sum.

When a player moves up a number, he can re-roll all the dice and move again. As long as one dice was use to move, he gets to roll again.

A dice may only be used once per roll. For example when a roll is 1, 2, 2, the player would use the 1 then the 2 but may not reuse the 1 with the 2 to move to three.

When a player rolls and can’t move, then his turn is over.

Players race up the rainbow to 12 and then back down to 1. The first player back down to 1 has climbed the rainbow and has won the game.
