The Pumpkin Seed Games, A Fall Day Full of Fun & Laughter

I love pumpkin. I mean really love pumpkin. But what do you do with all the seeds? If you’re like us, you compete in the Pumpkin Seed Games! The games are great for Halloween parties or any day you want to celebrate Fall.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. You can see this by our Halloween games including Trick or Treat Dice game, Boo dice game, Bones and Pips and our Whacky Putt Halloween indoor mini golf game. Naturally, with my love of games and pumpkins, I would want to combine the two, but who has room for all those pumpkins? But just one pumpkin will give you enough seeds to play these games and our Pumpkin Seed Minute to Win it Games too!

How many Pumpkin Seeds

To start off the Pumpkin Seed Games, you can play the classic guessing game, how many seeds? This one needs a little prep work. Find a jar or other container to fill. Count the seeds as you put them in and have players guess how many are in the jar.

Another way to play this game is to have players take guesses as to how many seeds will fit in the jar before you fill it and then have them count as you put seeds in.

The player with the closest guess wins the game.

Knuckle Bones

For this Pumpkin Seed Game, you will need five seeds per player. Players start with five seeds on the back of their hand. Next, they toss the seeds up in the air with that hand and then try to catch as many as you they can with the same hand.

Another way to play is to have players start with one seed and if they are successful with that one then they move onto the next round where they add a seed and try to do the same.

The player who catches the most, wins the game.

Pumpkin Seed Game: Who Has the Seed?

This Pumpkin Seed Game needs only one seed. To start, players sit in a circle and chose a player to be “it.” The “it” player stands in the middle of the circle. The players in the circle hold out their hands in fists. The “it” player closes his eyes and the other players pass the seed from one fist to the next. When “it” is ready, he will say stop. All other players stop passing the seed and hold out their fists. The “it” player now has three tries to guess who has the seed.

If he guesses correctly, he takes that person’s spot and then they become the new “it”. On the other hand, is he doesn’t guess in three tries, he must close his eyes again and the players go back to passing the seed.

Memory Match

For this Pumpkin Seed game, you need to colour a set of pumpkin seeds with either Sharpies (you can get a rainbow pack here-I use mine for so man things) or with paint. You could also write letters on them. You will need at least 24 seeds coloured—2 of each colour. If you run out of colours before seeds then you could add two dots to some sets.

To play, place the seeds coloured side down in a grid pattern. Players then take turns flipping over two seeds at a time to see if they match.

Pumpkin Seed Bacci Ball

For this game, you will need one plain seed, three seeds coloured in one colour and a second set of three seeds coloured in a different colour. You will also need a smooth table to play on.

First, one player slides the plain seed down the table. Next, the other player tries to slide one of his seeds to land as close as possible to the white seed. For there, players take turns sliding their seeds to get the closest. The player with the closest seed to the white seed is the winner.

Find the Seed

For this Pumpkin Seed game, one player hides one seed in a room—in plain sight. Next, all the other players join him in the room and try to find the seed. The layer who finds it gets to hide it again.

For large groups, you could play with colours. You would need the coloured seeds from memory match. Each team would have a colour to look for and can only say when they find their colour. He first team to find their seed or seeds is the winner.

Pumpkin Seed Game: Egg Toss

This game is played in pairs. You will need two cups and one seed for each team. The teams line up facing each other. Then one player tosses the seed to their teammate and she tries to catch it in her cup. If she is successful, then she takes a step back and tosses the seed to her team mate. On the other hand, if she doesn’t catch the seed, then the team is out of the game. The last team standing is the winner.

Seed Drop

For this game, you will need ten seeds and a jar or hollowed out pumpkin with a small hole in the top. You will also need a chair.

To play, players stand on the chair and try to drop their seeds into the jar that is sitting on the floor.

The player who get the most seeds in is the winner. If there are ties, then the tie players get to try again. To make this game more of an equal-level game, have older players use their non-dominate hand.

Spoon Toss

For this game, players need a soon and a seed. Next, the players put the seed on the spoon and toss it up in the air and try to catch it with the spoon—no hands allowed. The winner is the player who catches the seed the most amount of times. To make it more even, give younger players a wooden spoon and older ones a soup spoon.

Pumpkin Seed Game: Tic Tac Toe

You will need tic tac toe board and one set of plain seeds and one set that has been coloured. Players then play the game as usual.

Five Little Pumpkins

You will need the free game board that you can get in our Fun Library here, a dice and ten seeds for each player. To play, a player rolls the dice and puts a seed on the number that was rolled. However, there can only be one seed on numbers 1 through 5. If you roll a number that already has a seed, you pick up all the seeds that are on the numbers 1 through 5. Number six can have any number of seeds on it and once placed on the six, they stay there. The first player to place all of his seeds is the winner.

The Last Seed

For this Pumpkin Seed game, you will need a pile of 15 seeds. Each player can choose to pick up 1, 2 or 3 seeds from the pile on each turn. The player who has to pick up the last seed loses the game.

Pumpkin Seed Game: Seed Flick

For the last of our Pumpkin Seed Games, you will need six small cups that have point values written on them and placed in a triangle shape. Each player will need ten seeds. To play, players will flick their seeds with their thumbs (like flipping a coin) and try to get them in the cups. At the end of a player’s turn, you add up their points. The player with the most points is the winner.
