How to Play the Crocodile Dice Game

Today I have a dice game that is inspired by my daughter’s trip to Australia: Crocodile Dice.

Crocodiles fight to see who is the biggest croc for mating and social status. In this dice game you’ll fight to be the biggest crocodile. This game joins our growing animal games like Shark Bite, Crazy Fish and Turkey Run.

In this post we’ll cover how to play, the rules, and how to win. Let’s get to it.

What Do I Need for Crocodile Dice?

You will need five dice. I prefer to play with a set of green dice to add to the fun. You can also get a set of dice that have alligators on them. If you need to get more dice, we suggest getting coloured dice so that everyone can have dice in their favorite colour. (Canadians can get their dice here.)

How Do I Play the Crocodile Dice Game?

To start, all players roll one dice. The highest roll is the first player.

On your first turn, roll all the dice. The 6s are the crocodiles. If you have rolled at least one crocodile, you get a croc number. This number is the total of all the dice. The crocodile dice are wroth no points but the others are worth their face values. You croc number is written down and the dice are passed to the next player.

Julia’s croc number is 7

If you did not roll a 6 or a crocodile, then you get no croc number and the dice are passed.

Each player will have a turn to have a croc number in the first round.

On your second turn, you can pass if you think you have a strong croc number. If you choose to roll, roll all five dice. If you don’t roll a crocodile, then you are out of the game. On the other hand, if you have at least one crocodile, you get to choose the dice that you wish to set aside and the ones that you wish to reroll. You must keep at least one crocodile. Next, you reroll the dice that you have chosen. At the end of that roll, tally all of the dice for your croc number. Remember that crocodile dice don’t have any points.

If you have no croc number from the first, round, you roll all of the dice. Did you roll again without getting a crocodile? Then you’re out of the round. On the other hand, if you have a crocodile, you get to choose what dice you want to reroll, again you must keep one crocodile. Your croc number is the tally of all your dice after the second roll. You do not need to reroll any dice if you have a strong number after the first roll.

The player with the highest croc number gets a point. And the play starts again.

What If There is a Tie

If there is a tie for the highest crco number at the end of the round, then you must compete in a death roll. Each tied player rolls the dice and the player with the highest tally wins the point. No crocodile? Then you lose the death roll.

How Do I win Crocodile Dice?

When a player earns five points, they win.
