New Year’s Eve Dice Games: Year In Review Roll

For this easy game, you will need the Year Review Roll sheet that you can get in our Fun Library here and one single dice. You can get your password in the black box below. This is more of an activity than a game but it is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

First, a player rolls the dice. Then he will share with the group what the chart says. For example, if he rolls a 1 then he will share with the group something that he is looking forward to in the new year.

New Year’s Eve Dice Games: Stuck in Time

For this New Year’s Eve dice game, you will need five dice and a score sheet.

On a player’s turn, she will roll all five dice. If any of the dice show a 1 or a 2, they are stuck in time and are set aside. The player then gets to roll the remaining dice.

Again, if any of the dice show a 1 or 2 they are stuck in time and are set aside. On the other hand, if on any roll there are no 1s or 2s roll, the dice are added together.

On following rolls, if there are no 1s or 2s roll, the dice are added up and added to the existing score. This continues with dice either being added together or stuck in time until all the dice are stuck. The player’s score for the round is noted.

The winner of Stuck in Time is the player who is the first to reach 100 points. (Note you can play to a score of 50 points for a shorter game.)

Example play:

First Roll: 1, 4, 6, 4, 3 = no score the dice showing 1 is stuck and removed
Second Roll: 4, 6, 3, 3 = score of 16
Third Roll: 2, 4, 2, 1 = the dice showing 2s are remove, the score stays at 16
Fourth Roll: 3, 5 = 8 is added to 16 for a score of 24
Fifth Roll: 1, 2 = all dice are stuck in time and the player scores 24 for the round.

Roll Around the Clock Game

For this fun New Year’s Eve dice game, you will need three dice, a mover for each player and the game board that you can get in our Fun Library here.

It’s a race to 12 o’clock and then a countdown back to one in this fun game. Players start by rolling the three dice. They can move onto the clock if they roll a one. Next, they can move to 2 if they have rolled a two or a sum of two. A dice can only be used once per roll. If a player has moved on the dice roll, they can reroll all three dice to try to move to the next space. On the other hand, if they didn’t move on the dice roll, their turn is over and they stay on the space they are on.

Once, a player makes it to 12 o’clock, then she has to countdown and move back down the clock to 1. When a player reaches the number one spot she is the winner.

New Year’s Eve Dice Games: Roll the Year Over

Next in our New Year’s Eve Dice Games is Roll the Year Over. In this dice game, you will need two dice per player. The goal is to roll the New Year, without going over. Players play all at the same time. When GO is said, roll both dice and add them together. Next, re-roll and add those dice to total. Keep going until you reach 22. If you go over 22, then start again at 0. The winner is the first player to roll 22.

UPDATE: for New Year’s Eve 2024, change the number to 25 and play the same way.

New Year’s Eve Dice Games: Fifty

This fun, easy but frantic game needs two dice for each player. Players roll all at the same time. They are rolling for doubles—but not all doubles. They score, or not, with the following chart:

Doubles 6 = 25 points
Double 5 = 5 points
Double 4 = 5 points
Double 3 =  all points are lost
Double 2 = 5 points
Double 1 = 5 points

The score keeps adding unless you roll double threes. The first player to reach 50 points is the winner.

New Year’s Eve Dice Games: Candy Dice

For this game, you will need two dice, the game print out that you can get in our Fun Library and some candy in the middle of the playing area.

To start, every player gets one piece of candy—but not to eat yet! On a player’s turn, he rolls the dice and then follows the directions on the chart. It could be to take a candy, or to give a candy or to lose his turn. The game is over when the last candy is taken from the center. Players get to keep—and eat—the candy that they end with.

Run For the New Year Game

For this game, you will need 6 dice and a score sheet.

To play Run for the New Year, roll all six dice. Next, see how many runs that you can make with the roll. Runs start at 1 and continue in order. A player can have more than one run in a turn. Each dice in a run scores 5 points. A dice can only be used once per turn.

For example roll:

1, 2, 3, 1, 5  The 1, 2, 3 are a run worth 15 points. The 1 is also a run worth 5 points. The 5 is not in a run and scores no points. The score for this round is 20 points.

The player who reaches 100 points first is the winner.

New Year’s Eve Dice Games: Passage into the New Year

For Passage, you will need two dice and a score sheet.

Players are rolling for the number 2 as the new year is 22.

On your turn, you roll both dice. If you roll a 2, you scores 1 point. For double 2s, you score two points. Rolling dice that add up to 2 does not count. When the dice roll adds to 2, then you score nothing for the round.

The first player to 10 points is the winner. (Or for a longer game you could play until 22 points.)

UPDATE: for New Year’s Eve 2024, change the number to 5 for the year 25.

New Year’s Eve Dice Games: Yearzi

For this New Year’s Eve dice game, you will need ten dice per player. Alternatively, you can use as many dice as you can get for each player. Instead, you can play round robin style with the winner taking on a new player.

The game is simple, each player is trying to roll all their dice to be 2s—as the new year will be 22. When a 2 is rolled, the player sets it aside and keeps rolling all other dice. The first player to get all the dice to be 2s yells Yearzi and wins the game.

UPDATE, again for the New Year’s Eve 2024, change the number to 5s. Play so that players are looking to get all 5s.

New Year’s Eve Dice Games: That Roll is History

For this New Year’s dice game, you need just one dice. On a player’s turn, he will roll the dice. If he rolls a 1 that roll is history and he scores nothing, as 2021 is soon to be history. On the other hand, if he rolls 2 to 6, then he scores that amount. He then has to decide to take that score or risk it and roll again.

On his second roll, if he rolls a 2 to 6 then it is added to his first roll and he has to decide to either stop and take the score or roll again. On the other hand, if he rolls a 1 that roll is history and he scores nothing for the round.

If at any time, a player rolls a 1, he scores nothing and the turn is over. When he rolls anything but a 1 then he scores and can chose to stop.

The first player to reach 100 points makes the game history with a win.

UPDATE: For 2024, the history number is a 4. The game is played the same with 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 scoring and 4s not scoring.
