What’s more fun than a Totem pole? A Tiki Totem Pole Game!
Tiki Totem Pol is another original Family Game Shelf game. We had so much fun at our Luau game party and creating the die game Volcano that we did it again with this fun, a little crazy, easy to play game. It’s perfect for a Luau party or family game night.
What You Need for Tiki Totem Pole
You will need two dice per player. We recommend between two and four players. You will also need a set of dominos. The dominos set needs to only go to six. (You can shop Dominos here.)
Setting Up Tiki Totem Pole
First, you will need to set aside all of the dominos that have a 0 space on them. These will not be used in the game.
Next, place all of the other dominos face down in the middle of the playing area. Give each player a set of dice. We like to play that everyone has their own color of dice. (You can shop for dice here.)

Playing Tiki Totem Pole
To start, each player picks one domino from the pile. They then look at the domino but keep it hidden.
Next, push the other dominos to the side to make room for your Tiki Totem Pole.
Now the fun begins. The goal is to be the first player to get the numbers on their domino to be on the pole.
Each player rolls her dice, trying to get one of the numbers on her domino. All players roll at the same time. When a player does roll a number on her domino, she then puts the die in the middle, starting the Tiki Totem Pole.
It is important to state where the bottom and top are. Players can only add dice to the bottom of the pole and only take from the top of the pole.
When a player places a die on the pole, then she tries to roll her second number with her remaining die.

Watch out though, other players are trying to roll their numbers and add them to the pole.
Your numbers must be one on top of each other in the pole. The dice do not have to be your own dice. For example, if you have the domino 3-6 and someone else places the 6 then you just need to roll a 3.
If a player rolls his second die and places it on the pole but does not accomplish getting his domino combination, he takes the die from the top of the pole and rolls it. The die does not have to be one of dice that he placed on the pole.

Players keep rolling and placing dice and take dice from the top until someone has their combination on the pole. When a player does see her combination on the pole she calls out “Tiki.”
Play now stops. The player who called Tiki, puts her domino in her winning pile and collects a new domino.

Round Two
After the winner has her new domino, all of the dice in the pole are given back so that all players have two dice. The other players do not get a new domino.
The play starts over with all the players trying to get their domino combination.
Winning Tiki Totem Pole
The player who wins five Tikis, or dominos, is the winner.
Variations
At the end of the round, the pole stays in the middle. If the player with the new domino sees his new combination, he can call out Tiki and win another point. Otherwise, he takes the top dice from the pole and the game continues as before.
To play with more than four players, add a second set of dominos. This will make if possible for two players to have the same domino combination. In this case, the player who spots the Tiki and calls out first gains the point.
All Tiki-ed Out
We hope you like playing our Tiki Totem Pole game as much as we do. It’s just a little crazy but even the player who was the furthest behind wanted to keep playing and then wanted to play again and again. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry out in frustration when someone sneaks a dice on the pole just as you roll your second number, but most of all you’ll have fun.
