What You Need

For this first game we’ll show you how to play the basic game. You will need 5 dice and a score sheet. You will also need to decide how many rounds you will want to play.

How to Play Par 24

To start, the first player will roll all five dice. The goal is to get the highest score possible. After the first roll, you can set aside as many dice as you would like. You must set aside at least one dice. You can then reroll the rest of the dice. For each roll, at least one dice must be set aside.

This player decides to keep the 4s and 1 and re-rolls the rest.

When all five dice are set aside, they are added together. If the sum is under the par of 24, then you will lose the amount that you are under the par 24. For example, if your score is 22 then your score would be -2.

This player has 21 and is 3 under par.

If your score is 24, then you neither lose nor gain any points. Your score will be 0.

On the other hand, if your sum is more than par 24, then the amount you are over becomes your “hit” or “point” number. For example, if your sum is 27, then you are 3 over par and your hit number is 3.

This player has 26 and is 2 over par.

Next, you get to reroll all five dice. In this roll you are trying to roll as many “hit” numbers as you can. After rolling, you will count how many “hit” numbers you have rolled. This number is your score for the round.

This player rolled only one “hit” number of 2 and scores 1.

When the first player has scored, the play moves to the left.

The player with the highest score after the agreed upon rounds is the winner.

Rule Variations

The first rule variation for Par 24 is to set a number of points to play till instead of the number of rounds. The first player to reach that many points is the winner.

Par 24 Chips

For this variation of Par 24, each player will need a large supply of poker chips or bingo chips. You could also use candy as the chips. You can see the big list of games to play with candy here.

The game is played the same as regular Par 24 with this difference. If a player is under par, then she must give the number is under par to each player. That is if she is under par by 3, she must give each player three of her chips.

If you score 24, you keep all of your chips but don’t gain any either.

When you score above Par 24, then you will roll for your “hit”. After rolling, the other players will give you the amount of “hit” numbers you rolled. For example, if your “hit” number is 4 and you roll 4, each player will give you 4 chips each.

You can play for either a set amount of rounds, or you can play until one player has all of the chips.
