What You Need for Don’t Be Last Christmas Party Games

You will need a set of challenge cards that tell you what challenges to play. You can make your own games or you can get our set of 25 Christmas themed ones here (comes with rules and player cards and more). Each challenge has its own supply list. Most of the games have everyday items that you already have on hand—things like cotton balls, plastic cups, popsicle sticks that kind of thing. As these are Christmas party games, there are some games that need some holiday items like candy canes, Christmas cards and jingle bells. There are some challenges that will require you to do some shopping for things like marshmallows, ice cream cones and candy. Last, some of them need nothing at all.

At any time, you can use a substitute. Don’t have chop sticks? Then you can use pencils instead. Don’t like M&Ms? Then you could use fruit coloured cereal to sort or another type of candy.

How to Play Don’t Be Last

This game can be played with as many players as you have—big or small groups. The overall idea is that you start with everyone playing and then one by one, players are eliminated from the game until there is only one player left.

There is just one overall rule in this game: Don’t Be Last. For most of the challenges, it doesn’t matter who completes the challenge first, second or even third. As long as you are not the last one to complete the challenge, you stay in the game.

If you are the last player to finish the challenge, you will be eliminated from the game. That just means that you get to watch the rest of the fun, leaving you more time to much on some great holiday snacks.

There are three main types of challenges. First, there are the classic Don’t Be Last challenges. These are most of the challenges. There are two other types.

First, there are the Backwards challenges. In these challenges, it is the first player to fail at the challenge who is eliminated. Challenges could include standing on one leg while wiggling. In that challenge it would be the first to touch the ground with their other foot who would be eliminated.

Second, there are the team challenges. These are played in teams. Sometimes they are played in pairs or others in larger groups. When you are in the last team to finish, your whole team is eliminated at one time.

When you are eliminated, you get a card with the number of player you are as a keepsake.

Ties

When there is more than one player who finished at the same time at the bottom, then you can replay that challenge with just the tied players to see who will finish last. You could also have both players have their time in the game come to an end.

Last Two Players

When there are only two players left, they will face off in the last challenge. In this case, you are competing to be the first player to finish the challenge as the other player would be last.

Winning Don’t Be Last

If you guessed that the player who finishes the last challenge first is the winner, you would be correct!

More or Less Players

You can play the challenges that we will show you later in this post, you could create your own challenges, or you can purchase our Don’t Be Last Challenge cards in our shop. Our collection has 25 holiday themed challenges for you.

If you have less players than the 25 challenges that comes with the game, then you can go through the cards and decide what ones you would like to play and then put the others to the side. You will need one challenge less than you have players. For example, if you have 15 players, you will need 14 challenges.

If you have more than the 25 challenges, you can play a challenge more than once, create your own challenges or you can start with the team challenges to eliminate more people right off the start.
