How to Play Santa UNO

UNO is a family card game classic. It has many variations (you can see the list and get the free printout of our Ultimate Uno variation list here.) So it surprised me that there is yet to be a Christmas variation. So, we created Santa Uno to make your Christmas gaming even more festive.

The play time of this game is just what you want at Christmas time–fast. It’s no surprise that Santa Uno makes our list of Easy, Fast and Fun Game for Christmas that you can read here.

Playing Santa Uno

The rules for Santa Uno are the same as regular Uno with a few additions. Some cards have actions and there are some cards that you can play together.

Santa Uno Action Cards

Zero

When a player puts a zero card on the discard pile, she needs to say “Ho-Ho.”

Nine

Any time a 9 is played, the player must gallop their hands on the table like reindeer until the next player takes his turn.

Skip a Turn

While placing a skip a turn card, the player must announce “Jack Frost” because he freezes the next players turn.

Pick up Cards

Any time a player places a card that has the next player picking up card, he must wish that player a “Merry Christmas.”

Switch Direction

When a change of direction card is played, the player must either giggle like an elf or say “the gift of change.”

UNO

When a player is down to her last card, instead of announcing “Uno” she must say “And Happy New Year,” because the festive season is over with the new year, just like the game is over when the last card is played.

Multi Card Rules

Frosty the Snowman

A player can put down the 6, 7, 8 cards in order and either say Frosty or sing the song. The cards do not need to be in the same suit, however, the 6 card does need to be the same colour as the card on top of the discard pile. If the 8 card is a new colour, then the next player matches that colour. Why 6, 7, 8? The 8 looks like a snowman and the 6 and 7 help build it.

Presents

presents add up at this time of year and so can the cards. A player can play two cards and add up to a third card. For instance you could play a 3 and 4 that add up to 7. These cards need to be all in the same colour. While playing these cards, the player says “All the presents.”

Penalties

If player A notices that the player B, whose turn it is, hasn’t done the action for their card, player A can call him out and player B has to pick up one card from the draw pile and add it to his hand.
Note: for younger players or a more friendly game the penalties can be skipped.
