The Ghost Blitz Story

The game comes with a fun little story about a ghost who likes to make things disappear. He likes to take pictures of the things he wants to make disappear but there is a problem. The camera often takes the picture with the wrong colours! It’s up ot you to help him out and figure out what the next object is to make disappear.

How Do I Setup Ghost Blitz?

The set up for this game is simple. You take the five objects out and set them on the table where everyone can reach. You also shuffle the cards and put them on the table facedown. You’re all set to play.

How Do I Play the Ghost Blitz Game?

To play, one player flips over the top card of the pile and places it where everyone can see. Now the race is on. You are looking for the game piece that is one the card but only if it is the correct colour. When you spot the correct object, quickly grab it.

If you are correct, you put the card in your reward pile. You will then return all the game pieces back to the middle and flip over the next card and the race is back on.

It is possible that there is no correct object on the card. In this case, you will want to grab the object that is not shown on the card that is the colour not on the card. For example, if the card has a blue ghost sitting in a gray chair neither are correct. So, the ghost is shown so it is eliminated, the chair is also shown and is eliminated. The book is blue, so that is not correct. The mouse is also not right as the colour gray is on the card. So, in this case, you would grab the green bottle.

You would grab the ghost as the mouse and bottle are in the picture as well as the colours red and blue

If you grab the wrong game piece, then you must give the player who did get the correct piece a card from your reward pile. That player would also win the correct card.

Let’s try some. What would you grab?

How Do I Win Ghost Blitz?

When all the cards have been won, players count how many cards they have. The player with the most cards wins.

Personally, we find that it is a really long game, so we play until someone wins 10 or 15 cards.

Ghost Blitz Shout Variation

When you have mastered the grab version of Ghost Blitz, it’s time to challenge yourself with the Ghost Blitz Shout version.

You set this game up the same as before. You are also looking for the same piece as you would before. The difference comes in once you get the right object.

Before, if the correct piece was pictured on the card, you would grab it. In this version, you shout out the correct piece. On the other hand, if there is no matching game piece then you grab the piece that doesn’t match anything on the card.

For example, if the card has a blue ghost and a gray mouse, then you would shout out “mouse” as the mouse is the correct colour. If the card has a gray ghost sitting in a green chair then you would grab the blue book as there is nothing blue and no book is on the card.

You only have one chance at an answer for each card. Again, if you are wrong, you have to give a card to the player who does get it correct.

If two players shout the correct answer at the same time, you place the card at the bottom of the pile and keep playing.

If no one gets the card correct, everyone must place a card from their reward pile on the bottom of the deck.

Again, the player with the most cards when all the cards have been won is the winner.

What We Like

First, we like the simplicity of the set up. It’s just five game pieces and cards. Easy set up. The pieces are also really cute and sturdy. They are made of wood and are just the right size to grab.

Next, we love how much playability there is. First, there are a lot of cards. In a game like this, you could memorize the answer but there are so many and not everyone is matching. The fact that you are sometimes looking for what isn’t there adds to the fun and the longevity of the game.

We also like that there is an expansion with the game. Adding that element of shouting really keeps you involved.

What We Don’t Like

First, the box size could be smaller. There is a lot of wasted space in the box. Next, we find that going through the whole deck of cards does get a little repetitive, making it a long game. But when we play to 10 or 15 cards, we find the game is just right.

We also don’t like that this game is harder than you think. It really makes you pay attention and think. Okay, not real criticism as this is what makes it a game. And a good one.

Scary Time Fun

The Ghost Blitz game is simple to start but as you play you realise that it is much harder than you think. You will laugh and probably cry as you play. Should you add it to your Family Game Shelf? I think yes. Kids will love being able to see the correct thing before their parents do. It also develops critical thinking and observation skills. And for the adults, it makes a nice quick in between game.
