How to Play the Three of a Kind Dice Game

Dice race games are a favorite around here and we’re excited to add Three of a Kind to the list of games that fit this theme. It joins the likes of Fifty, Tenzi, Come on Six, Tiki Totem Pole, and Tug of War just to name a few. It shouldn’t be mixed up with the similarly named Threes Dice or Threes are Free.

In this post we’ll cover how to play Three of Kind dice game and go over the rules.

What You Need for Three of a Kind

First, you can play with as many players as you have dice for. Each player needs 6 dice. If you need some dice, shop here. Canadians can shop dice here. We like to play so that everyone has their own colour.

How to Play Three of a Kind Dice Game

To start, each player rolls all of their dice.

Players roll all at the same time.

Next, players choose two of the numbers that they have rolled. When all of the players have chosen, the race is on.

Players now have to roll three of each number that they chose.

Winning Three of a Kind

The player who rolls three of a kind for both numbers wins the game.

Less Dice

To play with only six dice, one player plays at one time. He will roll the dice, decide on his numbers and then roll until he gets three of each kind. While he rolls, the other players will either count the amount of rolls he takes to get the three of a kinds or they can start a timer and keep track of how long it took him.

When he is done, the dice pass to the next player who will roll all of the dice, deicide and roll until she gets three of each kind.

The winner in this variation is the player who took the least amount of rolls or took the least amount of time.
