The idea for Vampire Dice came to me quickly—in about five minutes. Fast, I know (I was surprised too.) I think it’s because I love dice games—Ohio, Stuck in the Mud, Fifty—I love them all. Also, I’ve created many dice games—Whacky Putt, Hockey, Volcano, Zebra Races—that my brain just puts the pieces together.
Whatever the case, Vampire Dice is a fun, easy to learn game that is perfect for Halloween. It will be a great addition to the Halloween gift bag that includes Boo and Trick or Treat. Now to bite into Vampire Dice…

How to Play Vampire Dice
First, there are three ways to play this game: Sudden Death Vampire Dice, 6 Lives, and Brood Vampire Dice. The amount of dice you need depends on which variation you’re playing.
Sudden Death Vampire Dice
For this game, you will need one dice per player. Each player rolls their dice. If they roll a two, they have been bitten by the vampire and are out of the game. On the other hand, if they rolled anything but a two they are safe. All the players who are still alive, roll their dice again. As before, if they roll a two they have been bitten and are out. The last player alive is the winner. If all players go out on the same round, then the vampire wins the game.

6 Lives Vampire Dice
For this game, each player will need two dice—a rolling die and a life die. To start, each player places their lives die with the six showing. Next, all players roll their rolling die. If they roll a two, then they have been bitten and die. But they are not out of the game yet! Instead, they turn their life die so that the five is showing. Each player has six lives.
Play continues with everyone rolling their rolling die. Any time a player rolls a two, they lose a life. When a player has run out of lives, he is out of the game.
The winner of this Vampire Dice game is the last player with a life. As before, if all players go out in the last round, the vampires win.

Brood Vampire Dice
The last variation of Vampire Dice if Brood. A group of vampires is called a brood.
Each player starts with one die. All players roll that die. If they roll a two, they have been bitten and are out. On the other hand, if they are still alive, they have attracted the attention of another vampire. They then add another die and will roll both dice.
If either of the dice is a two, they have been bitten and are out. But, if neither dice is a two, then another vampire is added to their pile. Therefore, the player now has three dice. This keeps going with player who roll a two are out and players who don’t roll a two get one die adding to their pile.
The last player alive is the winner. Again, if all players are bitten in the same round, those tricky vampires win.

Close Knit Brood
Okay, I said there were three but this is a slight twist on the Brood Vampire Dice.
In this game, players start with one die. If they roll a two, they have been bitten and pass their die to the next player on their left that is still alive. The alive players then roll all of the dice in front of them. (Some players might only have one die while others have more than one. This is the luck of the draw. When a vampire bites a player, he then has a taste for blood and moves to the next victim.)
The second roll is the same as the first, if you don’t roll a two, you’re safe. If any of your dice are a two, then you are bitten and any vampires that you have (dice) are passed to the next alive player on your left.
When one player has all the dice, she rolls them all one last time. If there are no twos then she wins. On the other hand, if there one two then, you guessed it, the vampires win.
